The Smart Business Awards is a new program to coincide with Queensland's 150th birthday.

The Smart Business Awards will applaud the efforts of those companies and entrepreneurs that have made the largest impact/transformation to the Queensland economy since 1859.

The Queensland Government encourages everyone - businesses and community members - to nominate companies which have contributed to Queensland's transformation from our establishment as a state in 1859 until today.

These could be (but are not limited to):

  • long-established businesses
  • those which are recognised around the world or
  • changed the way we do business in Queensland.

The Smart Business Awards offers six categories, including the overall Retrospective Award category:

  • The Premier of Queensland's Retrospective Award - to recognise the company that has made the largest impact/transformation to the Queensland economy over the past 150 years. (overall award)
  • The Premier of Queensland's Entrepreneur Award - to recognise the business person who has made the largest impact to the business community over the past 150 years.
  • The Premier of Queensland's Regional Business Award - to recognise the company which has made the largest regional impact over the past 150 years.
  • The Premier of Queensland's Business Product Award - to recognise the company that has copyrighted/manufactured an invention that has made the greatest impact to the business community over the past 150 years.
  • The Premier of Queensland's Corporate Social Responsibility Award - to recognise the company that has had the greatest ongoing commitment to the environment, the community or education over the past 150 years.
  • The Premier of Queensland's Most Iconic Business Award - to recognise the company that is regarded as the most iconic (product, service, brand etc) in Queensland over the past 150 years.

Nominations are open from 3 August until 30 September and the judging process will be undertaken in October.

A special cocktail function will be held on Wednesday 9 December to announce the winners of each category.
