Q150 Steam Train testimonials

Here are some closing words from the Q150 Steam Train journey. The Steam Train celebrations have brought so many people together to remember our State’s rich past.

Congratulations! My husband and I travelled on the train trip from Brisbane to Quilpie, and had a wonderful time. What a great way to bring back memories of the old mode of travel, and for the young people to experience the wonder of the engine puffing into the station. The entertainment along the way was also to be commended. Thanks to everyone involved in this project.

The day was absolutely perfect. Everyone was so kind to us. The children were incredibly excited and many of them brought the souvenir programs in their back packs on their own initiative. We were in the oldest carriage and our guide, Manfred, was very attentive. As our carriage was at the end of the train, we were able to walk right through the length of the train to see the dining car and sleeping carriage. The atmosphere was wonderful and the tunnel, whistle blowing and steam puffs brought squeals of delight from our children.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making last Sunday’s event (30 August) a success. We welcomed over 3500 visitors throughout the day and had approximately 1000 people to welcome the train at 4.30pm. The overwhelming response from members of the public that I spoke to on the day was one of pride, enthusiasm and interest in Ipswich, the Museum, Q150 and the Q150 Steam Train.

Just had to let you know what a great time we have had on the Steam Train. We caught the Train in Townsville and travelled all the way to Mareeba, and back to Cairns. The "icing" on the trip was the meal put on by the local council in the town of Herberton. We were picked up from the train and taken for wine and cheese at a lookout and later on to Herberton for our tea. The street in Herberton had being blocked off for the event. A big THANKYOU to the staff and volunteers that accompanied us on this leg. Again well done and what great times to look back on.

We are sending this email to thank you for the wonderful experience we had and shared with our three grandchildren up here in Cairns. We were lucky enough to get a local trip pass for the Q150 Steam Train from Cairns to Redlynch and return. To be able to share this wonderful experience of the steam engine and the historical carriages will remain in all our memories forever. Your staff and crew of the train were very professional, informative and friendly and if possible could our thanks be passed onto them as well. Thanks again for putting on this once in a lifetime event as part of the Queensland 150 year celebrations.

We have travelled on the Q150 Steam Train and had a wonderful time, and also visited the Q150 Shed in Mt Isa. I look forward to the next couple of train trips and hope to visit the Q150 Shed in Caboolture. Thank you for the efforts of the Q150 committee for organising the celebrations this year.

I travelled from Roma St to Bundaberg on the Q150 [Steam Train]. It was amazing and the welcome at each town was great, to be a part of this historic trip was something that was really special to my child. I would also like to praise the volunteer crew on the Q150 [Steam Train] as they went above and beyond their duty to make this trip a wonderful memory. [We were] well looked after by Tony, who became [our] mentor on the trip and learnt a lot about the history and the running of steam trains. Again I thank you for this wonderful opportunity and hope to see the steam trains running in Queensland for a long time.
