Queensland Week

Queensland Week is celebrated across the state each year. This year it's our 150th anniversary and there's no better time than 2009 to reflect on what it means to be a Queenslander. This is how we celebrated Queensland Week this year.

Queensland Day in Mount Isa

Q150 will celebrate Queensland Day in Mount Isa, where the Q150 Shed and Q150 Steam Train will come together for a weekend of celebrations.

The Mount Isa Recreation Park, a Q150 Legacy Infrastructure Project, will officially open on the morning of Queensland Day. The Mount Isa celebrations are being termed ‘Mega Day Out’, and will bring the community together – more than 5000 are expected to attend.

Queensland Week Gun Salute
Saturday 6 June, 11am, 12pm, 1pm and 2pm
Cultural Forecourt, the Parklands, South Bank

Victoria Barracks Historical Society's military re-enactment unit will fire its four 1850s bronze, muzzle loaded cannons in salute to Queensland Day. The Society that administers 'A' Battery, Queensland Permanent artillery, circa 1896, has fired the Queensland Day Gun Salute for 15 years.

Other activities

2009 Queensland Week Icons School Competition

Have fun in your classroom this Queensland Week and celebrate Queensland's 150th birthday by helping your students enter a statewide primary school competition. Students can win a Nintendo DSi and Big Brain Academy game or a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS4 digital camera!

This competition closes 5pm June 16.

Queensland Day, 6 June

Commemorating the day that Queen Victoria signed the Letters Patent in 1859 separating Queensland from the colony of New South Wales. Read more about the history of Queensland Day.
